I am completely new to D-Star and the DV-Mega / Rasperry Pie world.... so what did I do? I got the combo kit from GigaParts, assembled it and I think that I have it up and going but I am not sure if I am getting into a reflector and I am not sure if my ID-51A is getting onto the DV- Mega properly...
Is there a great D-Star / DV-Mega for dummies reference that someone could point me to?
Did you get the kit from them? Just curios.
If you are wanting to D-Star only try looking at the Maryland D-star image. Very stable and has worked well for me for over a year now. Link to instructions HERE also their homepage. Good luck. If you have any questions. I'll help where I can!

I'm a geek!
I believe that I am using the 'western' image?? that is in the video that Cale posted. the software all seems to be working, I just don't think I am getting all of the correct info in the right places in the software... will the Maryland dstar info help me on my version? Plus, i am so green, i don't even really know if I have putting the dstar info into the radio correctly... does it really take up 4 memory channels per dstar repeater?
First question - have you registered your callsign on the DStar network? If not, start there.
As far as Raspberry Pi images, I can't comment as I used to use IRCDDB and pcrepeatercontrol directly and not an image. I have heard great things about the Maryland image ( http://maryland-dstar.org/html/raspiberry.html) and D-Star Commander ( http://w6kd.boards.net/board/1/ham-radio).
It doesn't take up 4 channels, each channel has up to 4 callsigns added for routing to a single memory. Check out this intro video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR9oTNlvzeI
